Legal form of the energy community
The legal form of energy communities can be very different. It can be, for example, an association, a cooperative, a partnership, a non-profit organisation or a small/medium-sized enterprise. The legal form of the energy community should make it easier for its citizens, together with other market players, to team up and jointly invest in energy assets. This in turn, helps to contribute to a more decarbonised and flexible energy system. Energy communities operate as one entity and enable citizens to act on a level-playing field with other market actors. (Source: Energy communities (europa.eu)).
