Two distribution system operators, namely Stadtwerk Haßfurt GmbH and SWW Wunsiedel GmbH pioneer in the regional flexibility exchange in Germany and involve consumers and prosumers directly via peer-to-peer flexibility trading in a Local Energy Community (LEC). The operators are located in two towns 150km apart in Franconia, North Bavaria. This is a rural region with proliferating generation of renewable energy and sustainable technologies. ​
